At the Tappahannock Farmer's Market this past Saturday, a young man of about 25 and his female companion were looking at this painting. He stood there smiling and said, "That door is open. Do you want to know how I know that door is open? Because I'm the one that opened it! I was a little kid working with my Dad on landscaping, and I wanted to get in the truck. I got it open and couldn't get it closed! Ever since, every time I drive past it, I feel bad cuz I'm the one who broke the door!"

    This old truck is parked on the side of Route 17 in Essex County, VA. The most I know about it at this time is that it is owned by a gentleman named Randolph Fisher and its my understanding that this has been parked in the same spot for over 50 years. I recently found out that it is an old fertilizer delivery truck.

***** Update 1 *****

     It is funny how life plays out! I recently went to see a woman I'd never met. I met her mother, Trudy, instead. While we chatted and looked at the paintings I had with me, her landlord came by and I was introduced to the man, Tim. Trudy showed Tim this painting and his jaw dropped. He said, "I know that! I have stuff stored in that shed and I helped build those doors!"  Tim confirmed its owner as Randolph Fisher and verified its use as a fertilizer delivery truck.

   After 50 + years in the same spot, the truck has been removed from this location.  How sad. I am glad I got the opportunity to paint this before this piece of history was gone forever.
